president obama and mitt romney will a peal peer together at a political dinner in new york city. the romney campaign is feasting on new favorable poll numbers. the president, meanwhile, got help of his own from some high star power. bill clinton and bruce springsteen. tom fitzgerald is joins us now and we'll start with the numbers here. >> reporter: brian, the poll tracking site real clear politics tracks the major polls out there in the country right now. the judged to give you a better idea of exactly where we are in this campaign. what real clear politics is seeing tonight is that of the seven major polls they look at, seven of those polls, mitt romney is loading in four of them, ties in a fifth and trails the president in only two. even after a better second debate performance by president obama, mitt romney is now leading the rcp average. in ohio thursday, the obama campaign got a double dose of

sequestration and abortion are expected to be discussed. another big story, the boy scouts are releasing thousands of confidential files to the public. they reveal on many instances, suspected pedophiles were shielded by authorities who helped cover up the abuse allegations. >> reporter: as children growing up, brothers matt and tom stewart say their scout leader repeatedly molested them. >> this is where i was sexually abused by my scout leader on numerous occasions when we would come here for campouts as a boy. >> i was molested every month of every year interest the age of 6 all the way through the age of 18. >> reporter: the brothers sued the scouts a decade ago and agreed to the settlement. do you to a statute of limitations, their abuser was never charged. now, the boy scouts so-called perversion files detailing a century of abuse are finally being released after the oregon

supreme court ruled they are public records. >> the boy scouts sat on this information for 100 years and we'll they may say we as a society doesn't understand as much about pedophiles and how they operate, that might be true, but the boy scouts certainly knew. >> reporter: the group claims it helped former spouts -- scouts abused find counseling and would not give specific examples. matt and tom stewart said the scout's process of video doing volunteer background checks is insufficient and continues to leave boys vulnerable. >> when you sit on tens of thousands of files and not notify the authorities of criminal acts,en in people like me end up as victims. >> and they're on a civil suit filed against the scouts on behalf of the plaintiff who is molested in the 80s. the oregon supreme court ruled the files shown to a jury

should be made public. new tonight, the fallout from the controversial abortion clinic regulations in virginia. we're learning health commissioner dr. karen remley resigned today and citing the new clinic regulation says. in a letter, she wrote in part the new codes created an environment which my ability to fulfill my duties is compromised andky no longer serve in my role. and they requiring new and existing facilities to expand the hallways, increase the size of operating rooms, provide covered entrances and more parking and opponents argue the regulations are medically unnecessary. we're learning now details of a foiled terrorist spot. quazi nafis shifted his attention from the president to the federal building in new york instead. he was arrested yesterday as he tried to detonate a car bomb outside of the federal reserve building. the bomb was fake and security

officials say people like nafis continue to have a threat to the united states. >> no longer the attack to think of and in the context of 9/11. it's rather these individuals who come into a community like queens and they melt into this community. and they radicalized or become radicalized when they become here. >> nafis is from bangladesh and arrived in the united states last january to attend college get a business degree and he did poorly in class and stopped showing up. and monitoring metro tonight and launching a new campaign and this uses the images of a september 11th attack next to verses from the kur -- quran. the vote behind the ad say they inspire jihad and the new posters are some in response to the original posters. metro has not said if or when it will run the new ads.

"post" poll, marylanders are leaning in favor of gay marriage, 52% to 43% and among likely voters. a large majority are for marriage equality. according to the post poll, among black voters, a slight majority opposed gay majority. an interfaith group of clergy announced their support for question 6 today and that is in a church in silver spring. >> i am thrilled to stand here in support of question 6 and to invite all maryland voters to vote yes. if they do so, countless marylanders will be so overjoyed. this is a matter of decency and fairness. >> and. >> the civil marriage protection act allows us to make sure the government protects all families and residents of the state equally you were the law and, at the same time, provides sufficient language that allows religious

institutions to define the religious right of marriage in accordance with their belief. >> and opponents of gay marriage plan to introduce their interfaith page, which will urge maryland voters to say no to question 6. >> more than half of the key demographic support the same- sex marriage. they found 52% of latinos favored gay marriage. a few years ago, 56% were against them and the same poll, 75% claim themselves as democrat or gaining the moment um -- claiming the democrat party. former championship boxer oscar de la hoya recorded a robo call urging voters to support expanded gambling in maryland. it will allow the casinos in prince georges county and other locations. he joins a long list of other athletes, actors, and musicians who publicly endorsed question seven. in addition to gambling and same-sex marriage, the dream act is among the issues that

delay in st. louis. here it comes and we have some imbedded thunderstorms with that action. this is kind a little bit of moisture ahead of the main line and the main line still well to our west. we're going have to take a break quickly and send things back to brian. we have breaking news. brian? >> reporter: more on the breaking news out of prince georges county. a police officer involved in a serious crash and right now, police are holding a press conference. >> on branch avenue, and it was a collision at the intersection of branch avenue and seraf road with a second vehicle, an suv, operated by a female. that female was injured and taken to prince georges county hospital with non-life threatening injuries. and, as a result of that collision, also found in the cruiser and forced into i u -- a utility pole at the intersection. he was transported their -- transported here to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries and this is the second

death in two months in reference to traffic accidents. i ask the commune-to-the-keep everyone, and keep the police department and this community in your prayers. thank you. speaking about an accident that took place in clinton this afternoon about 3:00. where a 28-year-old prince georges county police officer, a father of 2, chording to witnesses, was cut off in his take-home vehicle while offduty and crashed into a utility pole and died. it's the -- utility pole and died. it's the second police-involved crash involving the prince georges county police department in recent months. we'll gather more details tonight and in the meantime, we'll take a break. we'll be right back.
